About
Miami Beach Tennis Players Association (MBTPA) was formed in March 2009 to represent the views and concerns of the tennis community. For many years, city officials have viewed tennis as low priority. Public courts were disappearing, lack of maintenance became a concern, and the proposed Master Plan for Flamingo Tennis Center was downgraded at each city meeting.
The sport of tennis is now on the upswing, tennis is the fastest growing sport in America. The image of tennis as an exclusive club sport is a thing of the past as its popularity thrives from elite international players to children in the inner city.
Not only does tennis have universal appeal, it is a sport you can play from the age of 4 to 94 – the sport of a lifetime. MBTPA plays its part in our community to put tennis back on the map; and to create a united front for tennis players so our concerns will be addressed.
It is easy to become an MBTPA member, simply submit your name and email address.
Tennis, Advantage Miami Beach. Already famous for its spectacular beach and night life, Miami Beach now also counts tennis as a main attraction.
The city boasts 15 free-of-charge hard surface tennis courts (with more on the way), and two clay court tennis facilities. A $5M renovation of Flamingo Tennis Center will begin April 2012.
And Miami Beach tennis fans are just a lob shot away from the Sony Ericsson Tennis Tournament which takes place each March at Key Biscayne.
There is one more reason why tennis players and fans should visit Miami Beach, the return of the Orange Bowl Tennis Championship is anticipated. Miami Beach welcomes the challenge to grow the tournament and the spectators from days of glory when great stars were born at the Orange Bowl. All of this is possible with the support of our community and City officials.
